Plasma eMTBR-tau243 and p-tau205 as T2 biomarkers for biological staging and prognosis in Alzheimer’s disease

Two blood tests can track late-stage tau tangle buildup in Alzheimer's disease.

Sohyun Yim, Eun Hye Lee et al.

Two blood markers rise later in Alzheimer's disease than other markers do. They go up when sticky tau tangles build up in the brain, which doctors usually see only with brain scans. One marker, combined with another blood test, can sort patients into disease stages. This blood-based staging matched brain scans closely and predicted how memory and thinking would change over time.

What it could change A blood test stage system matched brain scans and predicted future memory decline.

Shown in a research cohort with brain scans, not yet tested in the general public.

One research cohort only, not yet tested broadly in the public.
